Tips for clean MIDI art

Use clear contrast. Dark art on a light background—or the reverse—produces the cleanest note shapes.
Start with fewer columns. A width of 100–250 is easier for most DAWs to display and play.
Match the background. If the preview is inverted, change Auto-detect to Light or Dark background.
Control the pitch span. Tall images can use many notes; the converter safely scales them into MIDI's 0–127 range.

How does image-to-MIDI conversion work?

The tool reduces the image to a grid. Each horizontal cell represents a point in time, each vertical cell represents a pitch, and detected foreground pixels become notes. Neighboring pixels are joined into longer notes to keep the MIDI file compact.

Are my images uploaded or stored?

No. Image decoding, pixel analysis, preview rendering, and MIDI generation all happen locally in your browser. Closing or refreshing the page clears the selected image.

The converter accepts formats that modern browsers can decode, including PNG, JPEG/JPG, GIF, BMP, and WebP. A clear, high-contrast image usually creates the best piano-roll result.

Can I listen to the generated MIDI online?

Yes. Convert the image first, then use the built-in player to play, pause, stop, seek, and change volume. Playback is synthesized with the Web Audio API in your browser, so Cloudflare only needs to serve the static site files.

Is the generated file compatible with FL Studio and Ableton?

Yes. The download is a Standard MIDI File (.mid). You can import it into FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Reaper, MuseScore, and most other MIDI-compatible music software.

Does converting an image reproduce its sound?

No. This tool maps visual features to notes. It does not identify instruments, extract audio, or transcribe a waveform. Assign any instrument you like after importing the MIDI file into your music software.
